I’m Em - a New Zealand-based Visual Architect
(yes, I made that up - but it fits).

I originally studied architectural design, but it didn’t take long to realise I was more interested in how ideas were communicated than just how they were built. I was always drawn to the colours, the layouts the way a project could tell a story through good presentation. That pull eventually led me into graphic design, where I’ve been ever since.



I’ve studied and worked in a few different places - from the south coast of New South Wales to the Gold Coast and Tokyo - and each experience has shaped how I think about design as something that lives in both culture and everyday life.



These days I focus on branding, web design and art direction, combining digital skills with a feel for colour, composition, and clear communication. I’ve worked on large campaigns for clients like Sydney International Airport, as well as more hands-on projects through our carpentry business, Kinfolk, I co-run here in Cambridge. That balance keeps things interesting and keeps my design connected to how people actually use and experience it.



At the heart of everything, I just enjoy making things that are honest and feel good to look at - design that communicates in fun and interesting ways, with a strong sense of care and detail behind it.
